Capt. Nolin R. Baird, a navigation instructor with the 4347th Air Force Training Squadron, was awarded the commendation ribbon for his participation in a special project at Davis Montham Air Force Base, Arizona. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. F.C. Baird, 3914 High St.
Donna McPherson took special pains to polish her E-flat alto saxophone, mastery of which earned the Everett high schooler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G.E. McPherson, Route 4, Everett, an invitation to play in the all-Northwest band under the baton of Eric Leidzen in Seattle Civic Auditorium.
25 years ago (1984)
Six Arlington girls wrote Polish labor hero Lech Walesa to ask him to ride on their Fourth of July Parade float this year. Walesa responded that he was unable to attend, but the girls got some television notoriety. The six girls were Rosemary Hooke, Michaela Tessem, Jenny Marsh, Bernadette Patayon, Missy Hammer and Molly Meehan.
Lumber from an overturned truck stopped traffic on a portion of I-5 at the interchange with I-405. The load on the tractor-trailer shifted, overturned and spilled lumber onto the roadway.
