50 YEARS AGO (1959)
John Lane, Boy Scout Evergreen Area Council executive since 1955, was leaving next month to assume a similar post with the Western Colorado Council, headquartered in Grand Junction. Parker Williams, president of the council here, said many improvements were seen under Lane’s leadership.
Sevenich Motors submitted the apparent low bid of $7,330 on a contract to furnish four cars for the Everett Police Department. Other bids came from Walsh Platt Motors, $7,525; Hutchings Motors Co., $7,788; Allen Buick Co., $11,181; Follestad Nash Co., $8,480, and Bill Miller Inc., $7,824.67.
25 YEARS AGO (1984)
Congress was to name a 50,000-acre pocket of the wilderness near Monte Cristo in the North Cascades for the late Sen. Henry M. Jackson, it was announced by U.S. Sen. Slade Gorton. It would be at the southwest edge of the existing Glacier Peak Wilderness.
Two Everett High School students held governmental reins in the county and in the city this week. On Monday, Romona Peltier served as county executive for the day, giving Willis Tucker some pointers. Daren Dahlka took over Everett Mayor Bill Moorer’s seat for the day.
