50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Granite Falls Garden Club entertained members of Lakeside Garden Club at a picnic recently at the summer home of Frank Anhes on the Pilchuck River. A luncheon was served and the afternoon was spent playing cards and hunting for rocks along the river.
Shirley and Frank DeBellis won the senior trophies at the Pilchuck Valley Riding Club’s Playday on Sunday. Janice Weber took the junior trophy. Bob Bauman won at musical chairs. Pat Davis won the senior pole-bending while Gene Bauman was tops in the barrel and scurry races.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
The D.A. Duryee home of the week was a beautiful north-end charmer at 1431 Wetmore Ave. The bungalow with clipped gables was the model home for Everett-area builders Donovan-Allen when it was first sold to the present owner. Asking price was $62,500.
A new 24,000-square-foot Pay ‘n Save outlet — the company’s sixth drug store in Snohomish County — opened at the Everett Mall Plaza. Manager Dan Sick called it a super-store with higher counters and a larger selection of groceries. It had 38 employees.
