50 YEARS AGO (1960)
Lynnwood took the traditional honors for the first baby of the year away from Everett for 1960. A boy, born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward B. Eshe of Lynnwood, was born at 6:12 this morning at Everett General Hospital.
Everett city and park crews were busy preparing the islands separating the intersection of Alverson Boulevard (now Marine View Drive) and the overpass leading to the waterfront from Legion Memorial Park for planting dahlias next spring.
25 YEARS AGO (1985)
For Susan Alaynick and Amy Strandell, a dream had come true with their Blue Heron Books on North Broadway. The bookstore featured titles by authors in the Pacific Northwest and volumes printed by local publishers.
Ralph Sager of Marysville was $2,574,565 richer after winning the state lottery. After taxes, that amounted to nearly $103,000 each year for the next 20. His wife, Pat, reported that she and her husband each bought 20 Lotto tickets at the Smokey Point 7-Eleven just hours before the drawing.
