Take the entire family out to the old ball game

Look beyond the first-base line, over the stands at an Everett AquaSox game and one will see a veritable children’s wonderland.

Kids running free in the large grass field, playing tag, others seeing how fast they can throw a pitch, some bouncing in the bouncy house and others just sitting around taking it all in. Those kids may not know the score, but who cares, right?

Baseball is a family game and the AquaSox aim to be family-friendly in more ways than just the game. The AquaSox Fun Zone features a bouncy house, speed pitch and hoop shoot. There’s also a giant inflatable slide for kids to enjoy and the AquaSox mascot, Webbly, weaving in and out of the all the action, high-fiving kids and posing for selfies.

It’s a win-win for most parents: They get to keep an eye on the game and have peace of mind their kids are safe and enjoying themselves, too. A few parents stand at the top of the stands along the first-base side to keep one eye on the game and the other on their kids.

“There is always things for kids to do,” said AquaSox general manager Katie Crawford. “We love that families can come out here and enjoy the game and more.”

After home games, kids can run the bases on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and families can enjoy fireworks following Friday night home games and on the Fourth of July. During the seventh inning stretch of home games, kids 10 and under can head down to the field and sing in the kids choir.

After Sunday’s game, fathers and kids can play a game of catch on the field.

The AquaSox also have a Future Frogs Club for kids 12 and under. For $12, kids get free admission to all Sunday games, a T-shirt and other special discounts.

Here’s a list of unique dates specifically aimed at kids fun:

June 27: Seattle Mariners Tribute Night. Former M’s pitcher Jeff Nelson will make an appearance and the first 500 kids will receive a special Mariners giveaway.

June 28: Mascot Mania. Webbly will have plenty of friends as mascots take over Everett Memorial Stadium to entertain.

July 5: Root Beer Float Day. For $6 kids get all-you-can-drink root beer floats from when the gates open until the fifth inning.

July 26: Felix Hernandez Bobblehead Night. The first 1,000 fans will receive a bobblehead of the M’s ace.

Aug. 7: Star Wars Night. Appearance by the members of Everett’s 501st Legion Star Wars enthusiasts, a lightsaber performance, a one-of-a-kind Stormtrooper jersey auction and post-game fireworks.
