Weekend reading: Guns N’ Roses, 50 Cent, Smashing Pumpkins

I’m looking at the names of the acts I just wrote in that headline, and I keep thinking three words: Past their prime.

Anyway, all three have been in the news of late, despite their fading glory, as you can tell from the articles I’ve linked to below. Along with those newsworthy acts, though, a lot of other articles were worth reading this week.

Check ‘em out:

  • Billy Corgan enjoys lashing out at those who love him, we find out in his hometown papers, the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times.
  • 50 Cent is the kind of rich where his money makes money on its own, he tells Blender.
  • Axl Rose spent a lot of time and money to record “a shipwreck, capsized by pretensions and top-heavy production,” the NY Times says. (You may have to register with the NYT to read the review.) Still, hipster writer Chuck Klosterman is totally ready to celebrate the album by making out with Axl Rose, or something.
  • At age 19, Taylor Swift has written 500 songs, she tells Rolling Stone.
  • Fleet Foxes are the kind of popular where they get told they’re awesome before playing a note, we’re told at Pitchforkmedia.com.
  • The New Yorker says Pink got popular wearing bulletproof underwear and singing about sex, so she shouldn’t rip into Jessica Simpson for flashing her bra now and then.
  • It’s OK with Ryan Adams when Oasis lyrics don’t make sense, but not so much when REM goes off the deep end, we find out in this fun interview, which finds the Guardian quoting lyrics to the singer.
