Any luck getting money from the state?

Government entities are required to send unclaimed property to the state, and there it sits until someone comes and claims it.

I entered a few names of my coworkers in the state’s website, and sure enough, a few people had unclaimed money — enough for a nice dinner out, not a trip to Belize. One of those folks with unclaimed cash, columnist Julie Muhlstein, told me getting the cash was more trouble than it was worth for her. She wrote a column about it in 2006 here.

Since then, the state has added the ability to claim cash online at www.claimyourcash.org. I wondered how difficult it would be to get cash back. Since the state doesn’t have any of mine, I’m asking you. If you’ve gone through this process, I’d like to hear what the experience was like. If you haven’t, you might want to try running your name through the state’s database. Maybe you’ve got a few bucks coming to you.
