HONORS
Firefighters complete training
The Lake Stevens Fire Department recently recognized three firefighters who passed their probation, a year of training and mentorship, at the Feb. 3 commissioner meeting.
Brian Kees, Garth Lervold, and David Petersen took the F
irefighter Oath at a special ceremony during the meeting.
Fire Chief Dave Lingenfelter thanked the firefighters for their hard work and noteworthy positive attitudes.
Principal named to sports hall of fame
Middle school principal JoAnn Carbonetti has been selected as the first woman coach named to the Bishop Blanchet High School Hall of Fame.
Carbonetti, principal of both Park Place and Monroe middle schools, is a 1968 graduate of Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle, where she competed in volleyball, basketball and fast-pitch softball.
After college, Carbonetti returned to teach math, physical education and to coach several sports at the high school.
She will be inducted into the Hall of Fame at a banquet April 16.
Foundation adds board members
The Everett Community College Foundation Board of Directors has added six new members: Shane Cloninger, Andy Hall, Mike Liepman, Susie Nelson, Jerry Martin and Deborah Wright.
The Foundation Board works to increase student scholarships, support students with emergency loans and grants, and seek out equipment and support.
Cloniger is the founder and managing partner of the SC Financial Group.
Hall, a Rotary member, is partner with Botesch, Nash, and Hall in Everett.
Liepman is the CEO of Valley General Hospital in Monroe.
Nelson is an engineer for Kimberly Clark specializing in process improvement activities.
Martin is a Realtor with ReMax Northwest in Mill Creek. Wright is the City of Everett’s Department of Neighborhoods and Community Services executive administrator.
Board members, who serve as advisers and ambassadors for the college and the EvCC Foundation, are elected by vote and serve three-year terms.
Martial arts director honored
Master Hud Huddleston Sr. was inducted last month into the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Honors 2011, considered the Academy Awards of the martial arts, in Atlantic City, N.J.
Huddleston is the director of the Korean Hwarang Martial Arts Federation in Everett . He’s been teaching martial arts since 1970.
GIVING
Weight loss group donates food
The Edmonds chapter of Take Off Pounds Sensibly, a weight loss group, has organized a year-long monthly food drive to benefit the Edmonds Food Bank.
Donations will be delivered to the food bank on the first meeting each month.
The group’s 24 members collected food and delivered the first donation of the year on Feb. 1.
To donate, bring non-perishable items to the group’s meetings at 9:30 a.m., Tuesdays at the Maplewood Presbyterian Church, 19523 84th Ave. W., Edmonds.
Council donates money to nonprofit
The Fred Harrington Council 7863 in Marysville, a part of the Knights of Columbus Catholic fraternal society, donated $500 to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Everett.
The donation will be used to help the less fortunate.
