EVERETT — Arlington educators received more than $20,000 in grants to fund classroom supplies and learning materials, a press release said.
The Arlington Education Foundation awarded a record 33 grants to schools in the Arlington School District during the Nov. 10 school board meeting. Programs at Haller Middle School, Arlington High School, Presidents Elementary and Post Middle School received $1,250 each.
“Every grant represents an idea that will spark learning and joy in our classrooms,” foundation president Kim Deisher-Allen said in the release. “It’s such a privilege to help our teachers bring their visions to life.”
Since 2011, the foundation has provided mini grants to the city’s schools so teachers can buy books, educational games and other teaching tools, its website says.
The foundation has two main fundraising events each year, Arlington Public Schools Director of Communications Gary Sabol said in an email. The first occurred in September and the second — a Santa Breakfast — will be on Dec. 6.
When Arlington teachers apply for a mini grant, they must demonstrate how the money will be used to benefit students, meet educational standards, remove barriers and increase access to learning, Sabol said. Priority may be given to innovative ideas or methods that include family involvement.
