Celebrating Flag Day at the Senior Center — without the center’s flag

Today the Carl Gipson Senior Center, 3025 Lombard Ave., is hosting a barbecue celebration for Flag Day.

This strikes me as ironic, given that earlier this month somebody inadvertently turned the senior center’s flag pole into a hood ornament. A car was forced off Pacific Avenue June 3, and it

hit the bus shelter, some shrubs and the flag pole. No one was seriously hurt.

The center’s director said last week that she expects the flag should be up and flying again soon.

Old Glory should still be on hand today. Everett High School’s NJROTC is expected to present its flag at the event.
