Closures of two major highways in Snohomish County are planned for early in the week for roadwork.
Crews plan to shut down Highway 522 between 164th Street SE and Fales-Echo Lake roads south of Monroe early Sunday morning for work on the new bridge over the Snohomish River.
The highway is scheduled to close at 12:01 a.m. Sunday and reopen at 6 a.m. During the closure a large crane will be on the current bridge, blocking traffic in both directions. The crane will lift heavy pieces into place for the new bridge. This is part of the Highway 522 widening project.
A signed detour will be in place using Highway 9 and U.S. 2.
A second closure is also planned for Aug. 4 at the same time.
Also, closures are planned on U.S. 2 spanning Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The highway is scheduled to be closed overnight Monday from Highway 204/20th Street SE to Highway 9 for work on the new Bickford Avenue overpass.
Westbound U.S. 2 is scheduled to close at 8 p.m., the eastbound lanes at 10 p.m. There will be no access from Bickford Avenue to U.S. 2 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Signs will direct drivers on a detour. The ramp from Highway 9 to westbound U.S. 2 will also be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Eastbound U.S. 2 at Highway 204/20th Street SE will be closed from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday for more bridge work. As with Monday, there will be no access from Bickford Avenue to U.S. 2 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. and a signed detour will be in place.
