EDMONDS — A spin in a fancy sports car Saturday turned into a possible felony for a young Marysville man.
It also could mean a hefty repair bill for his brother, who reportedly had rented the Lamborghini for a family event earlier in the day. The car sustained major front end damage after the Marysville man allegedly ran into the back of a another vehicle after refusing to stop for police, according to Edmonds police Sgt. Josh McClure.
Edmonds police officers were out in force over the weekend, working a safety emphasis as the city celebrated the Taste of Edmonds. In recent years, the department has deployed extra officers during the festival to cut down on disturbances and drunken driving.
Around 11:30 p.m. Saturday, a sergeant working the safety patrol spotted a young woman with a beer in her hand leaning out the window of a white Lamborghini. The sergeant instructed the driver to pull over. The Marysville man had other ideas.
He drove off and other officers saw him run several stop signs in the downtown area, McClure said. An officer attempted to stop the car on Fifth Avenue. The Lamborghini sped off and police followed. The pursuit lasted no longer than 10 seconds before it was terminated due to safety concerns.
The sports car was found moments later at 226th Street SW and Highway 104. The driver had rear-ended another vehicle. People in that car were shaken up but not injured, McClure said.
The Lamborghini driver, 23, was suspected of being intoxicated and officers processed him for DUI. He also was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of attempting to elude police. He was released late Sunday.
The passenger, 20, was booked for investigation of being a minor in possession of alcohol. She also posted bond Sunday.
