Two-year-old Jameson Coonts of Snohomish is disabled, but that’s not going to keep him from going places with his family.
Thanks to Snohomish County sheriff’s deputy John Cummings and others, Jameson was given a special $289 car seat.
Jameson’s mother, Jamie Coonts, met Cummings in September at a Safe Kids child car seat clinic in Lynnwood. Coonts wasn’t sure about a car seat for Jameson, so Cummings volunteered to help. He contacted an expert on car seat safety.
Safe Kids, Babies ‘R’ Us employees, individual donors and the county child passenger safety team pitched in to buy the seat.
Coonts is excited about the gift.
"We want to be able to live life to the fullest and take Jameson with us whenever we can. It’s important to stay a family and make him feel he is a part of the family," she said.
She encouraged all parents to make sure their children have proper car seats.
"Most of the car seats we see at our clinics are installed incorrectly," said Kim Schroeder, president of Safe Kids.
The following agencies offer free child car seat checks:
