EVERETT — Biking and walking from the Interurban Trail to the Everett YMCA could get easier and more intuitive.
The Everett City Council on Wednesday unanimously approved a call for bids for pedestrian improvements, with a budget of $385,000.
Once awarded to a contractor, the work will include a new crosswalk on Colby Avenue at Emma Yule Neighborhood Park, just south of the YMCA at 4730 Colby Ave. To help pedestrian safety, the crossing will have rectangular rapid-flashing beacons and a raised median.
Currently the Interurban Trail there runs parallel to Colby, just east of the road and behind homes. But it doesn’t have a clear connection to Colby until it reaches 41st Street.
With the improvements, the city will offer another link to the trail, via a new wider asphalt shoulder along Beaumont Drive, from Alta Drive to Colby.
