EVERETT — Paine Field broke a 14-year unofficial record for a high temperature on Monday, and did it well before noon.
By 11:45 a.m. Monday, Paine Field showed 63 degrees, eclipsing the previous daily record high of 56 degrees set on Jan. 29, 2010, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast high for Monday was only expected to reach 61 degrees, said Maddie Kristell, a meteorologist with the weather service. By 2 p.m., the high in Everett stood at 65 degrees.
“We might have exceeded the forecast,” Kristell said.
Everett’s unofficial record Monday comes as several stations across Washington posted record highs on Sunday, including 65 degrees near Forks, 62 in Bellingham and 61 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
As for Paine Field, the airport tied a previous record with a high of 59 Sunday.
Kristell expects similarly balmy conditions Tuesday with a high of 61 as the latest in a parade of atmospheric rivers promises another round of moderate rain for Puget Sound lowlands Tuesday night into Wednesday.
“Afterward, temperatures will be coming back down for what’s more appropriate this time of year,” Kristell said.
