EVERETT — Prepare for sunshine and sweat.

A heat wave is predicted for Saturday and Sunday in Snohomish County, particularly south and east of Everett.

Some inland areas such as Monroe could see highs near 90, said Josh Smith, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle. Downtown Everett is expected to be in the mid or high 80s. North county may be a little cooler.

The Weather Service on Friday issued its first heat advisory of the year for Western Washington. It lasts from noon Saturday to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Older people, children and those with health conditions are especially vulnerable, Smith said. Those populations in particular need to watch out for dehydration.

In the evenings, “it’ll be cooler than during the day, of course, but it’s going to stay somewhat warm overnight,” Smith said. “In Everett we’re looking at a low of 58 degrees and in Monroe also lows in the upper 50s as well. The lows won’t drop below the upper 50s and that’s during the coolest part of the night. Our normal lows this time of year are much lower than that.”

This summer is supposed to be normal in terms of rainfall — unlike last year’s dry spell — but hotter than usual, Smith said.

Monday’s prediction is highs in the 70s, which makes for a decent cool-off compared to the weekend, Smith said.

“It will still be sunny, but you’ll be more comfortable,” he said.
