East meets West tonight in Edmonds

See what happens when East meets West in a cultural collision of art at 7 tonight at Edmonds-Woodway High School, 7600 212th St. SW, Edmonds.

Artists Aleksandr Kargopoltseva and Chris Hopkins will start the evening with a slideshow and discussion, followed by a gallery show featuring their paintings and illustrations. The two artists will focus on the cultural heritage and life experiences reflected in their work.

Kargopoltseva’s sister is Olga Kargopoltseva, a mezzo-soprano who has performed with the Concert Opera of Seattle. Her music will be featured in the gallery throughout the evening.

Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to support gallery presentations.

Correction

Wini Mardesich was pictured in a photo on Page A1 Wednesday that accompanied a story on Page A14 about Fisherman’s Packing Corp., where she worked as a teenager in the late 1920s. She was misidentified in the Page A1 photo caption. A related story on Page A1 included an interview with Winnie Martinis and her conversation with a fisherman who survived the sinking of a fishing boat in 1945.
