The Dr. Art Grossman Memorial Bike Ride was held April 14 on the Centennial Trail.
The Everett Family YMCA sponsored the event in memory of Grossman, a longtime Everett family practice physician, soccer coach and YMCA fitness instructor who died Dec. 21, 2017, of ALS.
“There was nothing he liked to do better than cycling outdoors,” said organizer Gael Gebow, senior program director at the YMCA of Snohomish County. “He managed to achieve 14,000 miles in 2015, and my big hairy dream was to unite our community together and achieve the same mileage in one day.”
In addition to local riders, people from Ireland, Istanbul, New Zealand, Scotland and other parts of the United States participated by donating their miles to the cause, she said.
The total mileage reported was 15,660.
“It may seem like a big world at times, but that day we were all one huge community — exactly as Art would have dreamed of,” Gebow said.
The event also raised $4,075 for the Everett Y.
