MUKILTEO — A house fire closed Mukilteo Speedway for more than two hours Monday morning, fire officials said.
Around 4:35 a.m., Mukilteo firefighters were dispatched to a two-story house with a walkout basement on fire in the 7600 block of Mukilteo Speedway, said Fire Chief Glen Albright. Firefighters extinguished the fire. The home was unoccupied and no one was injured.
At 10:03 a.m., responders returned to the house after the attic caught fire, Albright said. The fire sent a column of smoke into the sky. Crews closed all lanes of Mukilteo Speedway as they battled the fire. They urged drivers to find alternate routes and prepare for delays.
Around 11 a.m., Albright estimated the speedway would remain closed another hour.
Six engines, two ladder trucks and three ambulances responded from the Mukilteo Fire Department, South County, Fire and the Paine Field Airport Fire Department.
Just before 1 p.m., the speedway reopened for northbound traffic. Southbound cars were getting by using the center turn lane.
