Sailors of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln may be the most generous in the carrier fleet.

The sailors raised nearly $160,000 in the annual Navy Marine Corps Relief Society fund drive, commanding officer Capt. Patrick Hall said. The sum is more than any of the other 10 U.S. carriers, according to a statement from the ship.

The Lincoln is now deployed to the western Pacific

After paying for supplies and prizes, the total collected was $159,627, Lt. j.g. Bryce Klaput said in a statement.

Klaput organized a car raffle in which sailors purchased a $25 ticket for a chance to win a 2008 car and other prizes.

“To be able to say only two carriers raised more than us in the last decade is awesome,” Klaput said.

The money will go directly to sailors and Marines through emergency aid, education loans, nurse visits, and financial help, Klaput said.

The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society is a nonprofit charitable organization that provides financial, educational and other assistance to members of the U.S. naval services, their families and their survivors.
