MALTBY – MXGP Inc. of Kirkland dropped its proposal to build a motocross track in Maltby.

Snohomish County on Thursday received a letter from the company retracting a permit application, said Donna Ambrose, the county’s spokeswoman.

MXGP spent $200,000 studying the 58-acre parcel at 18827 Yew Way, said Gary Strode, the company’s president. But it had to drop the plan because a new county mineral land restriction bans a motocross track from being built on the parcel.

MXGP has yet to find an alternate site for the track, Strode said Thursday.

A judge in Rapid City on Thursday set bond at $5 million each for two bikers charged with shooting five rival Outlaws Motorcycle Club members in a gunfight.

Chad John Wilson, 30, of Lynnwood and John James Midmore, 32, of Valparaiso, Ind., each face five counts of attempted first-degree murder in the shootings Tuesday at Custer State Park.

Wilson is a confirmed Hells Angel member and Midmore has been identified as a prospect with the gang, authorities said.

Both appeared in court Thursday via closed-circuit television from the Rapid City Jail.
