SALEM, Ore. — A storm socked in much of Central and Eastern Oregon, with snow and ice making travel difficult.
KTVZ-TV reports most Central Oregon schools closed Friday, some for a second day, expecting another 2 to 4 inches of snow.
State Police said 91-year-old Robert L. Akins died Thursday when his pickup crashed down an embankment east of Prineville and hit a juniper tree. Troopers said witnesses reported it lost traction on packed snow and ice on Highway 26.
The East Oregonian in Pendleton reported snow was expected to end by Friday night.
The Redmond Municipal Airport closed Thursday night because of ice. Its website Friday said it would be down “until further notice.”
The Eastern Oregon Regional Airport in Pendleton was down Thursday, but reopened at midmorning on Friday.
