COOS BAY, Ore. — Authorities on the Oregon coast say a 54-year-old woman has pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the death of her 87-year-old mother.

The Register-Guard reported that Coos County District Attorney Paul Frasier says Vana Gay Boren of Coos Bay entered her plea Friday. She was sentenced to more than six years in prison for the death of Willa Faye Boren.

The sheriff’s office says the older woman died in March 2014, most likely from a septic infection because of “numerous and horrendous bed sores” developed during the last weeks of her life.

Officials said Vana Boren was her mother’s caregiver. They lived in the same residence.
