Pumpkin bowling at Grandview fest

The Grandview Community Center’s annual harvest party will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the center, 11506 Smokes Road.

The evening will include pumpkin bowling, using pumpkins as balls, as well as a costume contest, prizes, games and a bake sale.

The Grandview Jammers will perform live music.

Edmonds

Church sale for hurricane relief

Edmonds Adventist Church plans a community garage sale for hurricane relief efforts from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at the church, 8625 196th St. SW.

The church needs garage sale items in good condition at least one week prior to the sale, as well as volunteers.

All funds will benefit Adventist Community Services, which works with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in Louisiana, the Emergency Operating Center in Alabama and two kitchen units in Mississippi that can produce 20,000 meals a day.

Everett

Ash Way lane closed for work

There will be a single-lane closure of Ash Way between 143rd Street SW and Madison Way through south Everett, Lynnwood and Mill Creek to install sewer and water for the plat of Murphy’s Glen.

The closure will take place between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. beginning today and last through Wednesday, Nov. 23. For more information, call Snohomish County Public Works at 425-388-6453.

Graveyard tour held Saturday

The Evergreen Cemetery Tour will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the cemetery’s second entrance on Broadway in Everett. Everett historian David Dilgard will guide the event.

Planners’ hearing on farming rules

The Island County Planning Commission will convene the second of three public hearings about proposed new land-use rules for farming near environmentally sensitive areas.

The hearing is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Harbor High School, 950 NW Second St.

Lake Stevens

Drainage budget under review

The Drainage Improvement District 8 board of commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the district office, 1911 Vernon Road. Agenda items include a revised draft of the 2006 budget.

Lynnwood

Local teen is in national pageant

Corinne Emerson of Lynnwood is a finalist in the Miss Washington USA-Miss Washington Teen USA event.

Emerson, 15, a student at Meadowdale High School, will have the opportunity to win cash and prizes, and the chance to compete in the Miss Teen USA and Miss USA events. Miss USA goes on to the Miss Universe contest.

Emerson is raising sponsorship fees to cover her expenses for the three-day event, Nov. 11-13.

Marysville

Council, school board to meet

The City Council and the Marysville School District board will conduct a joint workshop at 6 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 1049 State Ave. The agenda includes discussion of the effects of the recent bond failure, whether the district will attempt another bond vote, and opportunity for new construction during the next few years.

After the joint meeting, the City Council will conduct its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Agenda items will include annexation petitions regarding the Sunnyside and American Eagle annexations and review of a bid to build a security fence at the Edward Springs property on McRae Road.

Both meetings are open to the public.

Monroe

Developers make presentations

Developers interested in acquiring and developing the city’s North Kelsey property have scheduled to make public presentations at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Monroe Fire Department Training Room at 163 Village Court.

The city has selected Tarragon of Seattle, First Western Development of Edmonds and Pacific Retail Partners of Long Beach, Calif., to make presentations.

Each group will present its development concepts for the site, discuss similar projects each has developed and answer questions from the council. Specific deal terms will not be discussed during the public presentations.

The city owns 55 acres in the North Kelsey development, including 23 acres that it bought earlier this year from Snohomish County for $16.1 million.

Mukilteo

Kamiak club raises $1,700 for relief

Key Club members at Kamiak High School have raised more than $1,700 in Hurricane Katrina relief.

The students also donated backpacks filled with school supplies to the relief effort.

The students’ other activities include tutoring, serving at blood banks, holding food and clothing drives and volunteering at the Special Olympics.

The last week of October, the students will Trick or Treat for UNICEF to raise money for fighting HIV and AIDS in Kenya.

Snohomish

Workshop for Medicare set

The Snohomish Senior Center has scheduled a presentation for Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to help seniors sort out the new Medicare prescription drug program.

If participants bring any mailings they received, presenters will help screen out any fraudulent companies. This session is free and open to the public. Presentation will be at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1514 Pine Ave.

For the first time, everyone with Medicare, regardless of income, health status or prescription drug usage, will have access to prescription drug coverage.

This new coverage begins on Jan. 1. While information is available now, people can’t enroll until Nov. 15. For further information on the free presentation, call 360-568-0934.
