Arlington

City Council holds retreat

The Arlington City Council plans to hold a retreat in La Conner this weekend.

The annual event is scheduled for Friday to Sunday.

The council usually uses the retreat to discuss issues affecting the city’s future during a series of meetings with city staff. However, the agenda for the retreat was not available.

The meeting is open to the public.

The council is not scheduled to take any votes during the retreat.

The retreat will be held at the Channel Lodge, 205 N. First St. in La Conner.

Camano Island

State panel to discuss historic designations

The Governor’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will have its quarterly meeting at 9 a.m. Friday to review properties submitted for inclusion on state and federal historic registers.

Among the properties the council will review is an area on Cama Beach that was once an American Indian village. The Tulalip Tribes have fought a state Parks Department plan to build a state park there. The tribes nominated the site to be added to the national historic registry last year in an effort to stall the state’s construction efforts.

The council’s meeting will be at the Waltz Building at 116 Ave. B in Snohomish.

Marysville

Council members select a president

City Councilman Jeff Seibert was elected City Council president by his peers last week.

Seibert and councilman John Soriano were the only two nominated. Seibert received four votes, Soriano three.

Seibert is in the middle of his second term on the council, Soriano is beginning his third. The City Council president presides over meetings in the mayor’s absence.

Councilman Jon Nehring served as council president in 2007.

Three appointed to city boards

The Marysville City Council confirmed three appointments to boards last week.

City Councilwoman Carmen Rasumussen was appointed to the Marysville Fire Board, the governing body for the Marysville Fire District. Governance of the board is shared by the city and by Fire District 12.

Councilman Jeff Vaughan was reappointed to the Disability Board, which reviews and approves disability and retirement claims of firefighters and police officers.

Marguerite Tipton was reappointed to the Library Board, which serves as an advisory board to the City Council regarding Marysville Library issues.

The appointments were made by Mayor Dennis Kendall and confirmed by the City Council.
