MARYSVILLE — A man shot and killed himself on an I-5 on-ramp Saturday, leading to the temporary closure of part of the freeway, authorities said.
Marysville police were making a traffic stop around 11 a.m. when the 35-year-old driver pulled onto the northbound I-5 on-ramp from 88th Street NE, got out of the car and shot himself, said Marysville police officer Craig Bartl. The stop was initiated because the car was believed to be connected to a domestic dispute with a weapon reported Friday in Everett.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Bartl said. No one else was in the car.
No officers fired weapons, Bartl said.
The incident led to the brief closure of the freeway at milepost 200. The Washington State Patrol diverted traffic to the 88th Street exit.
Just before noon, the State Patrol wrote in a tweet that much of the freeway would reopen, with the right lane and northbound on-ramp from 88th remaining closed as the investigation continued.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the man.
The State Patrol, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Arlington police were involved with the response, Bartl said.
