EVERETT — A day after gunfire in downtown Everett left one man dead and another wounded, police were still trying to identify who fired the fatal shots.
Officers seized shell casings as evidence at Everett and Rucker avenues, as well as a vehicle that had been struck by bullets and later discovered at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.
Both injured men were dropped off at the hospital around 2:40 p.m., just after the shots were fired, Everett officer Aaron Snell said.
One man died. His identity had not been released as of Friday.
The second wounded man was expected to survive.
Residents and witnesses reported hearing many gunshots.
According to police, bullets struck multiple downtown buildings, but there were no other injuries reported.
Detectives were investigating if the apparent homicide had any connection to earlier reports of gunshots about a mile northeast, near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and 23rd Street.
