MONROE — U.S. 2 was blocked for hours on Wednesday afternoon as state troopers investigated an accident between a school bus and a dump truck.

The school bus carrying 22 Snohomish High School students was on U.S. 2, just west of Fryelands Boulevard, when it and the dump truck collided, Washington State Patrol trooper Keith Leary said.

Medics drove one student to a local hospital with a cut lip. Nobody else was injured.

A third vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, was also involved in the wreck.

The accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. The driver of the Ford dump truck swerved, crossed the center line and hit the side of the bus, Leary said.

The highway was blocked for hours during an investigation. State Ecology crews also were called to clean up a diesel fuel spill.
