Driftwood Players awards
The Edmonds Driftwood Players recently presented $3,500 scholarships to three theater students. Funding comes from the Hazel Miller Foundation and longtime donor and volunteer Julie Adams.
Mariah Lotz, who is entering her sophomore year at Westminster College of the Arts at Rider University in New Jersey, was awarded a continuing scholarship for her studies in musical theater and music direction.
Amanda Petrowski, a 2016 graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School, plans to attend Biola University in California. She was involved in high school drama club and musical theater.
Isabelle Smith, a 2016 graduate of Edmonds Heights K-12 and community college, will attend the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, where she plans to major in music.
New summer reads
Book Up Summer, a program of Page Ahead Children’s Literacy Program, gave away more than 2,400 books to more than 200 students at Liberty and Quil Ceda elementary schools in Marysville. The program is aimed at preventing a summer slide in reading.
