Second suspect arrested in Lynnwood beating death

LYNNWOOD — A second suspect is behind bars in the 2006 beating death of a Lynnwood man.

He was arrested and booked Friday morning for investigation of first-degree murder in the slaying of Dennis Brockman.

It is unclear what led police to the man, 47, or where he was arrested. He was being held without bail Friday in the Snohomish County Jail. The man has at least three prior felony convictions for drugs and theft.

The man was not named as a suspect in June when prosecutors charged Adam S. Ulanowski with first-degree murder in Brockman’s death.

Neighbors found Brockman’s body Aug. 7, 2006 inside his Lynnwood-area mobile home. Investigators believe Brockman, 63, was killed during a robbery, according to court documents.

He was a known drug dealer who kept large amounts of cash in his house, court papers said. He also was a partner in a pawnshop and often had jewelry, watches and tools.

Investigators linked Ulanowski to the slaying through stolen property, court records show. Everett police reported to detectives they had discovered an abandoned car that was full of checks, credit cards and paper documents. Some of the property belonged to Brockman.

Police were able to get a fingerprint off one of the documents and traced the print back to a woman. She told investigators she allegedly got the documents from Ulanowski, who had traded them for methamphetamine.

Detectives tracked Ulanowski to Colorado, where he was in jail for violating a no-contact order involving a girlfriend.

More than one person told police that Ulanowski had talked about killing a drug dealer, court records show. He remains jailed on $1 million bail.

“We don’t anticipate any additional arrests. Detectives stayed with this case, following up on leads until they were able to make both arrests,” Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said. “Hopefully, this will bring some comfort and resolution to the victim’s family and friends.”
