50 YEARS AGO (1959)

Clare Dobler and fellow workers at the Everett YMCA were embarking on a capital campaign to expand the facility. The old building was to be remodeled and a new building added along California Street.

Robinson Marina at 17709 Highway 99 in Lynn-wood was nearly doubled with the completion of an expansion and remodeling project. It was almost identical in size to the Everett marina at 19th Street and Norton Avenue.

25 YEARS AGO (1984)

Though he was 75 and blind, no one who knew Alejandro (Henry) Acebedo would tell you he was handicapped or old. Acebedo would shortly mark his 25th year as proprietor of Henry’s Snack Bar in the Snohomish County Courthouse.

There was a growing concern about the huge tire mountain on the old city landfill near the Snohomish River. City officials saw the huge pile of tires as 10 acres of trouble. To a handful of entrepreneurs around the country and in Canada they might be black gold, ripe for reprocessing. Thus the city was advertising in leading national newspapers hoping someone would pay to flatten the mountain.
