50 years ago (1957)
Trojan players were rehearsing for Everett Junior College’s production of “Reclining Figure.” They were Dan Goodwin, Verna Case, Jerry Takasaki, Bob Callaghan, Dick Friel, Gene Diamond, Ron Caldwell, Leon Zornes, Sylvia Friel and Vic Ruhl.
Area progress had proved too much for Captain, a 13-year-old mongrel owned by R.M. Moody. Born on a 10-acre tract just south of the new Edmonds High School. Captain died recently and veterinarians said his heart condition was brought on by the strain of changing conditions.
25 years ago (1982)
Dr. Tom Critchfield had brought about 8,000 babies into the world in his 29 years as an Everett obstetrician. The last two, delivered at General Hospital, were special. They were his twin granddaughters. Kelli and Megan Critchfield, daughters of Shari and David Critchfield, also had the same birthday as their grandfather.
Snohomish was looking forward to completion of the U.S. 2 bypass, but were at the same time worried about the impact it might have on lost tourist dollars. Businessmen Jim Harkins and Chuck Hooper said they’d have to work harder. City Councilman Everett Olsen and Mayor Ralph Davis thought the new route would improve business.
