EVERETT — Don’t put away your hat and gloves just yet. Near-freezing temperatures are expected to last throughout the week.
The National Weather Service predicts highs hovering around the low 40s with nighttime temperatures dropping as low as 29 degrees on Tuesday night.
“We’ve been dry and cool with the high pressure that’s sitting over Western Washington,” National Weather Service meteorologist Jacob DeFlitch said. “That’s really not going to budge until about Thursday ‘till we have a weak system that will move southward across the area.”
The system brings a 60% chance of rain on Thursday but then the skies are predicted to clear back up, and cold temperatures are expected to stick all weekend.
Areas around Stevens Pass and Snoqualmie Pass may see a few inches of snow, DeFlitch said, but don’t expect major powder if you’re planning to take advantage of bluebird conditions.
Snohomish County has six warming centers, which open when nighttime temperatures drop below 34 degrees. If you need a place to warm up during the day, pop into your local library.
