EVERETT — The Stanwood Police Department’s Community Academy graduated its inaugural class of 22 residents Tuesday, a press release said.
Over several weeks, the participants learned what it’s like to work as a police officer in Stanwood. After the graduation, seven members signed up for the Stanwood Police Department Citizens Patrol — a volunteer public safety program — and two expressed interest in pursuing careers in law enforcement.
“It was a great first Community Academy and another meaningful way for Stanwood Police to build bridges and connect with our community,” Police Chief Jason Toner said in the release.
Graduates received a challenge coin as a token of appreciation and heard from Snohomish County Sheriff Susanna Johnson during the closing ceremony.
Stanwood police hope to organize its next Community Academy in 2027. The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office — from which Stanwood contracts its police services — also offers a countywide community academy, with the next course planned for 2026.
