Time to ‘Stamp Out Hunger’

The largest one-day food collection in the nation is coming to your door Saturday along with the mail.
Postal workers plan to collect canned goods and dry food as part of a campaign called “Stamp Out Hunger.”
Last year local postal workers who belong to the National Association of Letter Carriers picked up enough food to provide 700,000 meals to people in Western Washington.
They collected nearly a million pounds of food in one day.
That food goes to Food Lifeline, based in Shoreline. That organization distributes food across Western Washington, including Snohomish County.
Nationally, postal workers plan to collect food in 10,000 cities across the country.
Most area homes will receive a bag to place the food in. If you don’t, just put the food in a sturdy box or bag.
The postal workers want nonperishable items such as tuna, canned meat, soups, pasta, rice and cereal. A volunteer or the person who delivers the mail will pick up food Saturday.
