SNOHOMISH — Travelers should prepare for backups on U.S. 2 this weekend as they approach the Pilchuck River.
Construction crews are scheduled to close one of the highway’s two lanes over the bridge to replace expansion joints that were temporary fixes for ill-fitting pieces originally part of last summer’s work. Flaggers will alternate traffic in the open lane.
The lane closure is from 9 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Monday.
The work was previously scheduled for May 14 to 17, but rain forced the weather-dependent construction to be rescheduled.
The Washington State Department of Transportation encourages drivers to delay trips, go before 8 a.m. or after 8 p.m., carpool and use other routes through the area. People can check live traffic conditions in the WSDOT traffic app and WSDOT traffic Twitter feed.
