LYNNWOOD — Authorities have identified the woman killed by a tree that fell on a homeless encampment in Lynnwood during Tuesday’s bomb cyclone.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Deborah O’Connor, 65. She died of compressional asphyxia and blunt force injuries.
Just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, a large tree fell on the encampment off Alderwood Mall Parkway, according to South County Fire. Fire officials said no other injuries were reported.
The tree came down as winds ramped up in Western Washington from a bomb cyclone. Gusts peaked at 48 mph at Paine Field in Everett, according to the National Weather Service.
O’Connor was one of two Washingtonians to die in Tuesday’s storm. In Bellevue, another woman, also 65, died when a tree crashed through her roof while she showered.
