Air conditioning and a hot actress

While walking by the old Everett Theatre on Colby Avenue for the first time in a long time, it reminded me of the time my mother took me to the theater to see Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald in “Indian Love Call” more than 70 years ago.
After we had been seated and prior to the start of the movie, the theater manager took to the stage and made the following announcement: “We just had air conditioning installed. Now you don’t have to worry about a person sitting near with body odor.”
A roar came from the audience. The movie came on and I fell in love with Jeanette MacDonald.
