At-risk groups trump even vets

Regarding the Friday letter, “Why do veterans have to wait?”:
I’m a Vietnam-era veteran. That the letter writer didn’t get an H1N1 shot has more to do with the fact that he very likely isn’t in a high-risk category. There are children and pregnant women who are far more likely to suffer dire consequences than us older folks.
While there are a lot of things that the VA has to ration that vets shouldn’t have to wait for, the wait for H1N1 vaccine is a simple matter of triage where the limited supplies go to where the need is greatest.
A little insight gained while volunteering at the Stevens Hospital vaccination clinic recently; bring a folding chair.
