Letter: Part of car tab increase is $5 for ferries

Frequently I hear someone ask “what happened to our $30 car tabs?” I’ll tell you where $5 is added every time you renew you car, truck, camper, trailer, bike, etc., when you mail in or go to county offices to renew your vehicle license. Whether you live in Bremerton, Clarkston, Seattle, or Spokane you will pay $5 for the ferry boat replacement thanks to the bill introduced, sponsored and supported by Reps Dave Hayes, Norma Smith, and Sen Barbara Bailey. Not a “tax,” but a “fee,” paid by all whether you ride the ferry or not.
