Officials find it hard to give back money

I just read that Treasury Secretary Paul O’Neill wants to speed up delivery of our tax-cut checks. Good for him and the Bush administration -they’ve pushed hard to get the tax-cut bill passed. But apparently some federal officials are suggesting an earlier delivery isn’t possible because of the expense of printing and sending checks, and because other check batches are ahead in queue.

Why couldn’t this welcome tax relief be done electronically – at least as an option? Watch how this issue plays out this summer. Once our life energies are taxed, it’s hard for those who control the purse to give the money back.
