As an Arlington community member and teacher, I know firsthand that Arlington has a strong community, and strong schools help build that. Vote yes to ensure we can continue making sure our students have what they need to be successful beyond graduation.
“Why vote yes?” you might ask yourself. There are numerous reasons why you should vote yes for the Arlington Public School bond and levies. We take pride in our schools and want to ensure that our students have what they need to succeed: safe and healthy school buildings. Post Middle School is in dire need of improvements. Our students need to feel that their education and school matters to the community.
Post Middle School is an open campus meaning students have to walk outside to get from class to class. These outdoor walkways are constantly flooding causing students to be cold and wet. This is not sustainable for Washington’s notorious rainy days. The 24 heat pumps that serve Post are more than 40 years old. They produce carbon dioxide levels twice the legal threshold. There are only so many air-filtering plants we can fit into our already overcrowded classrooms.
We need to do better for our students. We know students learn best in buildings that are safe, healthy, and well-maintained, and we need to show these students that their learning matters! We must build for the future now!
