In response to the Monday letter, “Pilot’s skills human, not miraculous”: I wonder if the letter writer were to ask the 150 survivors of Flight 1549 if they thought they had experienced a “miracle,” if most would say they had.
Miracles don’t necessarily have to entail some sort of supernatural intervention. Engineered technology and human training and skill are only tools used by a divine source to perform such extraordinary tasks. After all, isn’t God the real source behind all knowledge? I find it hard to believe that everything simply falls into place in perfect order without some guiding hand. The design found in the tiniest cell to the vast expanse of our universe shows to me there had to be some planning outside of our human experience. I believe that the “wonders of science and human achievement” in no way discount the existence of miracles or of God. They only represent a “glove” through which God is at work.
