Regarding the article, “Zika virus funding met with caution in Congress”: The latest outbreak of the Zika virus reminds us that we need to treat disease globally. Like Ebola, Zika has found its way to America and must be dealt with immediately, at its center, in order to protect Americans. The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has set a great example of how to do this. The Global Fund has battled these three pandemics successfully to a point where control is in sight, according to Executive Director Mark Dybul. Like the situation with Zika virus, the question is funding. The Global Fund is ready for a new round of funding to continue its quest for controlling these three pandemics. Congress must act in a timely manner to protect Americans by funding the global health battle. A call or a letter to our representatives will remind them that funding this battle is important to all of us.
