We all must show proof of identity

Anyone who knows me knows that I do not endorse prejudicial treatment of anyone. But I just cannot understand why it is such an onerous burden to be required to present one’s immigration papers, especially when caught breaking the law.

I have been required, all my life, to have on hand a driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, photo ID and sometimes my Social Security card and/or proof of medical insurance.

The only instance, when I resented it, was years ago when I wanted a drink and was over the age of 21 (just barely). Now I would welcome such disbelief of my real age! Actually some pharmacies do require ID, at my advanced age, to buy certain cold remedies. It would seem, that people who possess the correct papers, would be proud to display them. If any nationality is legal, then what do they have to hide?
