3A state basketball: More details on Meadowdale boys’ victory

Here are some particulars about the Meadowdale boys basketball team’s 52-48 loser-out victory over Mercer Island, according to an e-mail from Herald Writer John Boyle:

Matt Gorman led Meadowdale with 17 points, including 11 of 16 shooting at the free throw line. Drew Sexon had 22 for Mercer Island, including 14 in the second half as the Islanders staged a third-quarter comeback.

Meadowdale led 23-17 at halftime, but the Islanders out-scored Meadowdale 21-12 in the third quarter to take a three-point lead. Paul Werner hit a three with 4:38 left in the game to put Meadowdale up one, and the Mavs led the rest of the way. They hit five of six free throws in the final minute to put the game away.
