EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox fell behind by seven runs after three innings and a late rally came up just short in a 9-8 loss to the Tri-City Dust Devils on Friday evening at Funko Field.
Tri-City scored four runs in the first inning and four runs in the third to put Everett in a big hole early on. The AquaSox rallied with two runs in the sixth, four in the eighth and one in the ninth, but couldn’t complete the big comeback.
The AquaSox slugged five home runs in the game, two by Zach DeLoach to give him nine on the season. DeLoach finished the game 3-for-4 and added a double and three runs batted in. Patrick Frick, Jake Anchia and Cody Grosse also hit home runs.
Tim Elliott started on the mound for Everett (40-22) and labored through six innings. Elliott allowed eight runs on nine hits while striking out five and walking two.
The Dust Devils also hit five home runs in the game, including a league-leading 14th from Brendon Davis. Adrian Rondon, Francisco Del Valle, Gareth Morgan and Keinner Pina also homered for Tri-City (25-38).
