KEIZER, Ore. — Two AquaSox relievers combined to allow 12 runs in seven innings after Everett starter Ljay Newsome left the game in the second inning on Thursday in a 12-5 loss to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.

Newsome worked around a leadoff walk and a hit batsman in the first, but left the game after five pitches in the second inning.

Reliever Joselito Cano (2-2) promptly allowed five two-out runs in the frame, with Manuel Geraldo’s bases-clearing triple counting as the big blow.

The AquaSox (16-18) narrowed the deficit to 6-4 after Eric Filia’s two-run double keyed a three-run fifth. Filia went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI and a run scored against the Volcanoes (15-19).

Salem-Keizer scored two runs in each of the next three innings off Jefferson Medina to cruise to the victory.

Nolan Riggs (2-0) earned the victory for the Volcanoes with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, hitless relief of starter Victor Concepcion.
