Athletes of the Week

Baseball: Joey Petosa and Travis Snider helped Jackson win the 4A Region I championship by beating Lake Washington 5-3 and South Kitsap 18-0. Petosa batted 3-for-5 with two doubles and six RBI in the title game. Snider was 3-for-3 with a home run – his school-record 11th – and four RBI. Against Lake Washington, Petosa doubled and Snider reached base all four at-bats and scored two runs.
Softball: Cory Mattson led Everett to the 4A District 1 championship. In the Seagulls’ 2-1 victory over Kamiak in the title game, she struck out 11 batters and scored the game-winning run. In their 2-0 win over Monroe in a winner-to-state semifinal, she pitched a three-hit shutout and singled and scored a run. She had two hits and pitched a four-hit shutout in a 2-0 first-round win over Marysville-Pilchuck.
Boys soccer: Brandon Kelley led Snohomish to the 4A state semifinals with three goals and an assist in a 6-2 quarterfinal win over Decatur and two goals in a 3-2 first-round win over Inglemoor.
Boys track: Joey Bywater helped Lake Stevens win the 4A District 1 championship by finishing second in the 1,600-meter run and upsetting the defending 3,200 state champion, Jeff Helmer, in that event.
Girls track: Brittany Aanstad helped Lake Stevens win the 4A District 1 championship by finishing first in the javelin, high jump, and pole vault.
Girls tennis: Lauren Summers of Meadowdale captured the 4A District 1 singles championship.
Boys golf: Sean Fitzpatrick shot 1-under par for two rounds at Gallery Golf Course in Oak Harbor to win the individual championship and lead Jackson to the team title in the 4A District 1 tournament.
Girls golf: Christa Goldie of Kamiak scored 165 Stableford points over two rounds at Gallery Golf Course in Oak Harbor to win the individual championship at the 4A District 1 golf tournament.
