Boys hoops roundup: Stanwood struggles with O’Dea

The Spartans couldn’t get going in the first half as they dropped an elimination game to O’Dea.

SEATTLE — O’Dea took control early and left no doubt in loser-out state regional title against Stanwood.

The 11th-seeded Fighting Irish (16-8) went on a 19-2 run that spanned from the first to the second quarter, building a 17-point lead, on their way to a 78-55 victory Saturday at Garfield High School.

Mitch Jones led the way for No. 14 Stanwood (15-7) with 18 points.

John Misel, one of just two seniors for O’Dea, scored a game-high 22 points. Paolo Banchero, a five-star recruit ranked No. 6 in the country for the Class of 2021 according to 247sports.com, added 11 points.

Federal Way 69, Jackson 49

PUYALLUP — Sixth-seeded Jackson fell to No. 3 Federal Way in a non-elimination state regional game at Puyallup High School.

The Timberwolves (18-5) squares off with No. 11 Puyallup in an elimination game on Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the Tacoma Dome.

Kentridge 74, Marnier 50

AUBURN — Mariner’s season ended with a loss to ninth-seeded Kentridge (20-7) in a state regional matchup at Auburn Mountainview High School.

The 16th-seeded Marauders finish the season at 14-10.

Capital 59, Shorecrest 52

TUMWATER — Shorecrest’s comeback attempt fell short against ninth-seeded Capital (20-4) in a loser-out state regional clash at Tumwater High School.

The 16th-seeded Scots finish the season at 14-10.

King’s 65, Naches Valley 55

EVERETT — No. 10 King’s (19-5) advanced to the Yakima Valley SunDome with victory over 15th-seeded Naches Valley (15-8) in loser-out state regional contest at Everett Community College.

The Knights face seventh-seeded Deer Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

Muck. Tribal 76, T. Heritage 65

MILL CREEK — Kash Nichols scored 22 points to lead fifth-seeded Muckleshoot Tribal past fourth-seeded Tulalip Heritage in a non-elimination state regional game at Jackson High School.

Muckleshoot Tribal (23-3) extended its win streak to 14 games and earned a bye into Thursday’s state quarterfinals.

Alonzo Jones scored 15 points for Tulalip Heritage (20-5), which will face either 12th-seeded Oakesdale or 13th-seeded Concordia Christian Academy in an elimination game at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday in Spokane Arena, with the winner advancing to the quarterfinals.
